Italy shares borders with France in the Northwest region, Switzerland and Germany to the North and Slovenia in the Northwest region . Most of the country is a peninsula surrounded by Mediterranean Sea and the Adriatic Sea. The Italian islands are Sicily and others; Sardinia surrounded by Sait'Antioco, Asinara, Maddalena, San Pietro and Caprera; and along the coast are scattered Elba, Ischia, Giglio, Capraia, Capri, Montecristo, Ponza, Prodica and Tremiti. The country is furrowed by three mountain ranges: the Alps shared with France and Switzerland; where t Mont Blanc and Mount Rose stands, the highest peak of Italy (4,634 m); the Apennines, which form the backbone of the peninsula and of Sicily, and the mountain range of Gennargentu, common to two big islands of the West, the Italy Sardinia and the French Corsica. In the oriental part of the Alpine mountain range one can find the Dolomites (Italian Alps) and numerous passages. Here you can also find the Carnicon Alps, Venetian Alps and Julianos, along near the border with Slovenia. The flatness of the Po spreads triangularly from East to West, limited to the North Alps and on the South to the Apennines. In the peninsula and in Sicily and other islands some active volcanoes rise.
There exist seven climatic areas, which temperatures vary according to the height and the latitude. In general, the climate presents dry summers and moderate winters. Average temperature: 16 C.
The "Engine" that provides the economic miracle of the country, Milan is a city like no other in Italy. With fogs in winter, sultry weather in the summer, more nearby in appearance, to London than to Palermo, its a place hurried by the business in which consumption reigns.
Historical city, with enough churches and museums to entertain you the whole week, the majority of its buildings is an inheredence of the Visconti dynasty that governed during the Renaissance. Now Milan stands out as the center fashion and industrial Italian design, and not mention a night life that is, perhaps, most varied in the whole country.
Of all the historical cities of Italy, Rome is the one that lets out the biggest fascination. For the traveler, the absolute weight of the history is the most clear thing, its diverse seasons that squeeze each other up to an almost surprising step. Along with classic constructions - like the Coliseum - there are remains of the first Christian period, Roman churches, Renaissance palaces, rococo sources , and heavy buildings fron thePost-unification period , all this placed a few steps from each other.
To walk along Rome is common to get lost, this here is a recommendation more than a warning.
