Information about South Africa

GEOGRAPHY

The Republic of South Africa is located in the south end of the African continent. It borders with the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean on the west. And to the north it borders with Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabue, Mozambique and Suaziland. The state of Lesotho is a small country completely surrounded by the South African territory. South Africa has three principal geographical regions: the plateau, the mountains and the coast. In spite of relying on two fluvial systems: the Limpopo and the Orange, most of the South African plateau lacks rivers or lakes in the surface. Along the coast there are beaches and rocky coves with a vegetation of shrubs. The mountainous regions that run along the coast, from the Cape of "Buena Esperanza" up to the Valley of Limpopo, in the North-East of the country, its divided by the mountain ranges of Drakensberg, Nuweveldberg and Stormberg.

CLIMATE

The climate of South Africa is generally sunny and pleasant. The winters are usually soft, although occasionally it can snow in the mountainous areas of Cape and The Native. Occasionally it can snow in lower levels. Average temperature 20 ºC.
